Our old STK library had a 'virtual thumbwheel' on its tapes to set a volume virtually read-only. I checked our TS7700, but cannot find such a feature.
Something you could check: you can alter the tapes to a special mgmtclas (or other construct). Can you use RACF to limit update access tapes with to this mgmtclas or other construct? Second thought: the TCDB has a "WRITE-PROTECTED" attribute for each tape. I have no idea what this does, but maybe you can use this attribute to make the selected tapes read-only? Kees.
