I would certainly expect a "phone home".
Several years ago I got a call from California  as I was driving on a weekend. 
"You have a 
customer with a machine about to shut down because of thermals."
Mmmmm - even on a weekend banks don't usually like to do that in the middle of 
the day.
Gave the ops a ring - turned out some workmen had disconnected the alarms, and 
had left 
without turning them back on ...
