In searching around in order to get information for another post, I came across what looks like a valuable source of supplementary information.
Specifically, in the material under "Enterprise Extender and SNA enhancements" for "V1R10" under "z/OS Communications Server", I discovered an explanation of what the "performance improvement" is which is associated with the VTAM HPRSESLM start option, information signally lacking in the regular manuals such as the z/OS Communications Server SNA Network Implementation Guide and Resource Definition Reference.
