Hi Lizette and Dana,

We have had PanValet continuosly licensed ever since the PanSophic days.  Yes,
a PAN2 of that vintage issued a hardware reserve for the duration of the run.
I think that was fixed in 14.2, but not sure of the exact release.  I never
heard of any way to prevent the hardware reserve in the old PanValet.

In those days, we used to allocate all of the pan libraries to a volume(s)
where we could tolerate the hardware reserve.  Otherwise, you can simply use
CA-Disk or FDR for the backups.  I would assume that HSM would be fine too, but
I have no personal experience with it.

HTH,

Linda Mooney

Lizette,

I seem to recall having trouble with reserves issued by PAN#2 (and other
Panvalet utilities as well) especially when we moved a standalone system into
a Sysplex with others.   Like you say, it has been a long time ago.
