Ah. so my awk and perl solutions wouldn't be what you wanted either? <grin>. I 
sometimes do use those languages. Along with Dovetail Technologies' Co:Z 
product (zero cost - just download and install) to read from and write to z/OS 
datasets from UNIX scripts.
