(Picked this note among many for reply.) As a first pass I decided to try
Info-ZIP. The price is just right. Downloaded from two different sites
(thanks to other replies). The unzip program verifies OK. That is,

call infozip(unzip) '-v'

gives what I would expect. However, the same command for zip

call infozip(zip) '-v'

gives    "zip error: Internal logic error (empty name without -j or -r)"

The doc says this command should work for both programs. Can someone who
has it working try the command? Thanks.
