Thank you Eileen for mentioning that (D/R approach)

When we moved our Datacenter from a leased building to a self-owned building
(and admittedly rushed by a water main break under the leased building) - we
treated the move (with the exceptions, as Eileen noted) as a "controlled"
disaster - we shut off all online access and allowed existing batch to finish
on the old system - shut down all onlines (IDMS DB2 CICS) - I am pretty sure we
used virtual tapes to transport data (had we it to do over again, I think we
would PPRC the data) and then brought everything up as we would in a D/R
situation (although there was no uncommitted work to roll out) - it really
worked quite will

You only need to test the programs you don't want to get called on later

But the network part of things is a lot more complicated.
New lines and network definitions may have to be installed for SNA and IP
addresses changed for web applications.
Similar to doing a DR test at remote sites.

Simple answer; disk and tape(storage) replication for all operating platforms.

Subject: Moving to an outsourcing datacenter

When a company decides to move their datacenter to the datacenter of an
outsourcing company, how do they do it? How do they move all that data from
one location to the other?

Lindy
