Mary I'm coming to your query *not* as someone who knows anything (after reading the manual a bit, change that to
"much") about the HMC or "automation point from CA" but I do know a bit about SNMP and automation in general - as if that wasn't just common sense! First I went off to my usual source of manuals where I knew there was a "bookshelf" concerning the HMC. Did entering "SNMP" in the "Search text" box for the "bookshelf" reveal anything? It did not! But this dog keep hunting when a tasty bone is mentioned so I tried the Google, found a "forum" with a relevant query and answer which provided a manual number: SC28-8141. The IBM site's first hit was "Application Programming Interfaces" - SC28-8141-10 ...[1] http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss? uid=isg2a7538b34dbe52efa85256790004f5379&aid=1 The SNMP primitive which offers unsolicited notification which is probably what you have in mind with "sending the message to the automation point server" is *trap*. Assuming you have found and using this manual, the item you may have missed is the following: <quote> Chapter 6. Configuring for the Data Exchange APIs ... Configuring the Console for API ... 7. Specify any additional locations where enterprise-specific SNMP trap messages created by the Console should be sent in the Event notification information box. ... Adding entries to the Event notification information box will cause the Console to send the specified event notifications to TCP/IP port 162 at the locations specified. </quote> If you need more help - from the SNMP trap perspective as far as I am concerned - please post again. - [1] How it is that this manual is not "present" on the HMC "bookshelf" is a mystery only the IBM folk supposedly responsible for the "bookshelf" can answer. - Chris Mason On Fri, 24 Jun 2011 06:56:12 -0400, Mary Elwood <[email protected]> wrote: >Good Morning, > >We are trying to get the HMC to send hardware messages, state change >messges, etc., to automation point.
