The default atttibute for input fields had CAPS(ON) as default, so everything entered there would be translated to upper case by ISPF's dialog manager routine. So someone needed to change the panel or invent a new one to allow lower case letters to be entered. SDSF's extended command line is one example, ISPF's option 6 "Commands" is another one.
