I'm sure some might be surprised that I would NOT use CA-7 to manage my CICS
Regions. I would use OPS/MVS for the State Manager Aspects for Availability
or for Using Performance and WLM to determine if I need to bring up more
AORs when my Transaction throughput dips.
Areas that I'd consider:
- I prefer to manage my Online regions by qualifying under STC. That way I
can
use Sysplex or System specifications for assigning a Service Class.
Some sites
run Productin Onlines as STCs, while Development Onlines may be run
as JOBs in a specific Jobclass for a specific system (which may
be demanded in by CA-7). Running Online Jobs in a WLM-managed Init
may have some benefits (as in not starting if the system is too busy,
or routing to a system that does have resources.
But WLM-managed Inits only has a short-term history of how well your
systems are doing. So routing the Online Job that normally runs on
System D to System E
may not be so desirable for the big picture).
- Although no longer a major issue, I don't need to define single purpose
Inits for Onlines
- Started Tasks have the option of using System Variables. Cloning CICS
regions in an MRO environment can be easier using Variables.
I'm sure this reply can generate some other view points.
