That sounds like the best idea to me, FWIW. SHARE (and similar) really do seem to drive requirements quite well. >The lethargic inertia inherent in the IBM management structure is probably >our worst enemy. Although there are a few savvy IBM types that monitor this >list (Timothy Sipples, are you listing? *g* ) and might be able to >short-circuit the process. Savvy? Wow, thanks. I do know that IBM is making z/OS available at no charge to students and faculty at any college or university that cares to sign up. (Over 200 institutions already have.) There are several university zSeries machines scattered about the globe and equipped with lots of wonderful z/OS software. If I were savvy I'd pay the minor tuition expense at a local community college so I could get my z/OS fix. (In some parts of the world tuition is free -- or, more precisely, already included with your tax bill.) Or if I were really savvy I'd teach a mainframe class at my local college, get my mainframe access (since I'm now faculty), and get paid in the process. Or if I were really really savvy I'd teach a mainframe class, get my mainframe access, get paid, and use my extra income to buy a z800 so that I could start my own hosting business and get even more mainframe access! Details here: http://www.developer.ibm.com/us/en/university/scholars/products/zseries/ I know that z/OS, z/VM, and Linux on zSeries/z9 are all part of the program. Not sure about z/VSE and z/TPF, but obviously it can't hurt to ask. - - - - - Timothy F.
