I also think it's about introducing new software product development in the
IBM (not just z/OS) world. Right now, there are a few big players (IBM, CA,
BMC, SAG, others I'm overlooking not on purpose), quite a few medium size
players (Rocket, Neon, Connectivity Systems), a lot of small ones. But for
someone who has an idea and would like to at least try building a prototype,
there's no spot to develop and test using current technology. And
competition is good - it forces the others to reexamine and improve their
products.

True, but IBM-MAIN isn't limited to just technical issues with IBM products.
:-)

Later,

German is essentially a form of assembly language consisting entirely of far
calls heavily accented with throaty guttural sounds.
