I agree with Phil - particularly with regards to his comments about how
difficult (impossible) it would be for IBM to prevent this sort of problem
from happening in the first place.

My concern is *not* with preventing the situation from happening.  Rather,
my concern is with what happens AFTER the situation occurs in the field.

I would prefer that IBM stand "above the fray" and notify customers via an
electronic/automatic means that a problem has been identified.

My assertion is that acting in this fashion would benefit both customers as
well as IBM, in terms of maintaining the good reputation of the entire
mainframe platform.

Again, (my opinion) I do not expect IBM to test every possible
configuration - even of IBM's own hardware.  What I want is for IBM to
automatically attempt to prevent known problems from being *rediscovered*
by more customers.  AI information in a PTF simply fails to do this.
