We use DFHSM as a storage manager. It is significantly less expensive to buy a few tapes at a time than to buy a new DASD array, or increase the size of the current array. It is simply easier to justify to the Powers That Be. Just like it is easier to justify a new Windows Intel server than a new zSeries mainframe. The "bite" is less at a time. Long term? Well, long term around here is like 3 months. DFHSM is a "band aid" we use because we cannot force users to manage their DASD usage. So, we migrate it from DASD to tape, then eventually delete it. This is a "political" fix. Other than that, I agree that keeping it DASD resident would be better. -- John McKown Senior Systems Programmer UICI Insurance Center Information Technology This message (including any attachments) contains confidential information intended for a specific individual and purpose, and its content is protected by law.
