I'd say it is a PDSE under the cover .
Here we go again. HFS (and PDSE) are not VSAM Linear. They do share
some characteristcs of Linear, and (I believe) the Media Manager is the
low-level access method used for most VSAM and HFS/PDSE, but HFS/PDSE
shares no other VSAM code.
at one time, PDSE and HFS shared a lot of code, but I understand that
they were split some years ago for performance and functionality
reasons. They do share a similar format.
A duck and a goose share a lot of characteristics, but only a city boy
would think they are the same
