In the heady days of pre-Y2K, I spent a few years as a freelance
sysprog.

At one site - this involved going through hundreds of in-house assembler
programs - finding the source, bringing them under Endevor control and
making sure that they were ready for Y2K.

I think it was during this time that I lost a lot of hair - I think I
have seen it all :

(1) Asm programs with 1000+ lines without a single comment or reg equate
(2) Non-trivial programs using R15 as base
(3) Comments that are deliberately wrong
(4) Bible verses in the comments (no - really!)
(5) Really bad swearing in comments and "interestingly" named variables

I could go on but my therapist says it is best not to...

I had many "firing-squad and wall" fantasies during this period.

So the old 'real programmers don't do comemnts' joke makes my left eye
twitch somewhat as I look around for the nearest clock tower.....
