Skip/Bruce,

Many years ago now, I adopted the policy of using <> rather than ¬= in order
to ensure that the ¬ character was not lost when printing my clists. After
all there's nothing more irritating that seeing "=" and having to check for
a double-space in order to appreciate that it's really ¬=.

The point is that the character that JES2, in this case, wants to "see" is
the "not sign" (¬) and not the "cap"(^), as I believe it's called,
character. The "not sign" is correctly presented before me right now and I
hope will be preserved as it gets into the newsgroup and propagated on to
you. It was, in fact, not so easy to get this character into this post since
I had to use a little free utility which required the use of the Ctrl-,
combination.

The free utility is "AllChars for Windows" by Jeroen Laarhoven - although I
appreciate this is no help for use with JES2 :-)
