Now that's an "interesting" limitation. Seems to suggest that the
"Encryption Facility ..." can distinguish between a compressed (say, TERSEd
or ZIPped) "text file" and, say, a load module or program object.  If true,
I must wonder why the effort was expended to code such "intelligence" into
what otherwise seems a quite useful (and simple) utility.

It's not really that smart. It would decrypt the compressed/encyrpted file...but then uncompressing it would be up to you.
