The IBM Encryption Facility has the ability to compress the data before
it encrypts it, using the z/Series hardware compression. This generally
improves performance, since there is less data to encrypt. Also,
encrypted data is usually not very compressible by the tape hardware, so
this reduces tape utilization.
But the Client can run on non-zSeries hosts, which will not have access
to the hardware compression, so they just saying that you should not
request the Encryption Facility to compress data which is intended to be
decrypted by the Client.
