>IMO the one thing IBM did to the ISV's that hurt the worst was COBOL
(and LE). Most ISV's won't even talk with you about problems if you
recompile their source with the current COBOL. and demand that you
use *THEIR* coblib for linking.

Many a drop has gone over the 'damn dam, since you retired.

The above is no longer true.
LE compatability issues were fixed circa 2.8.

We're at 1.4, current with LE with a mixture of COBOL compilers.
No problems.

Also, Enterprise COBOL does not support (NO)RES.
(I always forget which is static/dynamic)

There are no static links, so no need for COBLIB.

Just because it was true years ago, does not make it true, today.

I know this, because as part of my responsibilities as project co-ordinator for
our (massive) upgrade from 2.10 to z/OS 1.4,
we had to upgrade over 50 products.
COBOL was one of them.

COBOL conversion had problems, not because of LE.
Rather, APPDEV was still using constructs that IBM had promised to drop.
And, they did in the release of Enterprise COBOL we went to (most current).
We are migrating through attrition.
As programmes are opened up they are using the new compiler.

I've mentioned some of this, before.
But, you tend to ignore things (outwardly) that do not match your (older) view.

COBOL is better.
LE is better.

Live with it!
