When comparing Unix command sequences to sequences of JCL steps
one aspect usually gets too few attention IMO: the value of
protocols/listings and the ease of finding them. Try to modify a
Unix command sequence (like the one Ted gave in his example and -
please, folks - try to grasp the essence of such an example rather
than quibbling over the validity of every single piece of it) so
that you will have a usable protocol of every single command - and
you will wind up with a horrible command construct. Or, try to
remember where you last found log X of application Y in a Unix
file system. You might quickly find yourself defining symbolic
links to places of interest. Now compare that to JESx and SDSF or
EJES to name a few.

There definitely are strengths in the way jobs are being managed
on z/OS.
