If someone can sujest a freeware ZIP/UNZIP program for z/OS ( compattible

There is a commercial one from ASI. I haven't dealt with them for
a few years. At that time, they didn't understand the realities of the
mainframe production environment. Last I looked, there was information at
http://www.asizip.com/toc.htm
Also, while I haven't used the mainframe version, I know there is
an os/390 port of INFO-Zip. It's freeware, including free for
commercial applications. (I use their zip and unzip on my PC.)
ASI was purchased by PKWare awhile back. PKWare still provides a z/OS
based PKZip package and has added support for 3DES and AES encryption
using either passphrase or certificates. They basically have 4 levels
of PKZip: Base, Enterprise, Secure, Secure w/Certificates. The base
supports up to 4 GB files and archives. Enterprise support 64 bit gzip
for large files. Secure adds encryption and Secure w/ceritificates adds
support for digitial certificates. But they all cost money.
