It's "announced and available," ready for ordering. Just checked on our
internal system. Although you might be devastated to learn that IBM
stopped taking orders for open reel and 4 mm tape cartridges for the
product. :-)

Yes, I've run into customers using it, too. Even have a possible new order
here.

OS/VS RPG II was announced on November 12, 1981. I was...very young then.
:-)

Really the only way to verify the above on ibm.com (that I know of) is to
look at http://www.ibm.com/common/ssi (the announcement letters) and do an
Advanced Search on the product number (5740-RG1), entire date range.
You'll see a reference (only) to the original announcement (it's from long
ago, so the original 1981 announcement letter didn't make it into the Web
database), and you won't see anything withdrawn (except the aforementioned
older media types). Since it's kind of obscure it never got its own
ibm.com page, but it's still available.

If somebody wants to report that it's missing from the Support Lifecycle
web page (
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/info/supportlifecycle/list/o.html), that'd
be great. We do have several products missing from the list that are still
supported, and that's one of them. Bonus points if you request it get
listed on the "Traditional Programming Languages" Web page:
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/sw-bycategory/subcategory/SW760.html

Thanks, Gilbert!
