I thought it came out at the beginning in 1988, MVS/ESA 3.0e, but the first reference in my JCL library is May of 1992. I do not remember what MVS/ESA release or DFP level I was on at that time. I do know that I extolled the virtues of DATACLAS extensively and used AVGREC within the data classes I defined, but rarely coded AVGREC on its own.
Maybe someone with a better audit trail can give you a more accurate answer.
