The above responses are great and have helped clear things up a bit. This whole thing started when an application programmer came to me with a question about his "model DSCB". Almost all our data in SMS controlled and I read you can not use model DSCBs with SMS data. Thanks to your responses I now know what this programmer and others in our shop call model DSCBs are in fact not. They are using cataloged data set as a DCB model. I think that this term has been passed down within the application programming ranks without understanding the differences between a model DSCB and a cataloged data set used as a model.
