I would just do a F HSM,STOP and then start it again afterwards but you can change nearly all the parameters dynamically without needing a restart; this not only allows you to 'suck it and see' first but also increases your uptime. You don't say what the parameter was but you can do F HSM,SETSYS >parameter< (and most other commands like ADDVOL, AUTH etc) anytime and as many times you like, then 'harden' it in the ARCCMDxx member for the next restart once you've definitely decided on that setting.
