We upgraded to 1.4 from 2.10. We pulled the new 1.4 LPAR out of the PLEX and did the upgrades, etc., there and tested pretty intensely. On the day of the cutover, spool was dumped, RACF backed up, catalogs backed up, etc. WE had applied toleration PTFs to 2.10 but still backed up a lot of stuff just in case. We had a few catalog issues, but after a few days got by them. It was mostly HLQ's getting lost for some odd reason. WE think the person who did the initial catalog work missed a step or two.
If you are really unsure, back it all up like you're preparing for a DR because once you get rolling, if you use the same spool space, and so on, you won't be going back.
