I've never used Spiffy but I wonder if it does not (did not?) do this as it
was specifically an "ISPF simulation" was it not?
Charles,
Spiffy is very similar to SimpList (I guess you could call them competing
products). Neither of them could be described as an "ISPF simulation" as
they both run entirely on the mainframe in a regular TSO/ISPF session.
What Spiffy and SimpList do is provide the mainframe equivalent of Internet
Explorer. The names of objects that are selected frequently (e.g. data sets,
VSAM files, DB2 tables etc) can be bookmarked and saved in lists of
'favorites'. That way, they can be reselected later for many different
functions by simply clicking the object name with a mouse or by entering the
object number on the command line.
The ability to work with many different objects types from a list of
favorites means users don't have to waste time and energy navigating between
many different ISPF panels and vendor products. They also don't have to
remember and keep typing in the same object names over and over again. In
other words, both products take away the 'pain' of working on a mainframe,
and replace it with a much more intuitive way of working that is very
similar to using a PC.
