Steve

Going through all these posts, I think I've managed to activate sufficient
neurons to recall the "Model 1" story.

I believe the 3277 Model 1 was 12 rows and 40 columns.

Then along came the 3278 Model 1. I recalled there was something strange
about this in that it didn't really replace the 3277 Model 1 precisely. The
reason was (must have been) that the 3278 Model 1 was 12 rows and 80
columns.

I've never really paid much attention to these 2 machine types but I see,
paying attention to the mode table entries in ISTINCLM, that, the default
presentation space dimensions for the "3278 Model 1" are specified as 12
rows and 40 columns while the alternate presentation space dimensions are
specified as 12 rows and 80 columns - as Alan Altmark has remarked.
