I can't say I agree with this. We have a STK VSM, and all MVCs (the backing cartridges) are duplexed automatically by the VSM -- two cartridges written by two different drives. We have had a few MVCs go bad on us, but we haven't lost any data due to their malfunction.
Data loss due to human error has occurred, but it's harder to lose a file on tape than a file on DASD, at least the way we are doing things here. (I am pondering the pros and cons of going to all-DASD operation here, though, so this part might be changing. This discussion is interesting.) Jon <snip> Of course it is possible to make dual copy, or use VTS PtP, however first method requires human effort (*) the second is quite expensive. </snip> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
