The use of a system determined optimum blocksize for the output data set with DFSORT and DFSORT's ICEGENER is controlled by the DFSORT SDB parameter. DFSORT's shipped default is SDB=INPUT which tells DFSORT to only use a large tape blocksize for the output data set if the input data set has a large tape blocksize. You can change the installation default or specify a run-time option to change that. SDB=LARGE tells DFSORT to always use a large tape blocksize, when appropriate. SDB=NO tells DFSORT not to use a large tape blocksize.
