Quite often management points out how busy the Windows sysadmins are compared to the z/OS sysprogs. So we are obviously "slacking off" and "unnecessary" compared to them. My analogy is along the lines of <quote>are firefighters who are in the station house "slacking off"? Do you really want them scrambling all the time? I'm sure the home owners would prefer them in the station to being at their house "working"</quote>. We should be like firefighters (so far as obvious activity is concerned). Of course, like us (hopefully we do this), firefighters are always training and learning, not actually fighting fires. We are not in the business of "fire fighting". We are in the business of "fire prevention". That is what the z/OS sysprogs should be doing most of the time, training and learning and anticipating problem (fixing them before they are visible). Oh, and teaching what they have learned to others. Assuming anybody wants to listen to us, which most do not. -- John McKown Senior Systems Programmer HealthMarkets Keeping the Promise of Affordable Coverage Administrative Services Group Information Technology This message (including any attachments) contains confidential information intended for a specific individual and purpose, and its content is protected by law.
