And you'd be right! PDSE is built on top of media manager and it does do
exotic things with I/O. So you get the cigar. However I have no idea
whether and how (if at all) the user specified buffer space comes into
play. My WAG is that whatever happens is entirely buried in the MM code.
As others have noted, the PDSE code materializes whatever dataset
(blocking) attributes you specify but the internal view is one of 4KB
blocks.
