For TSO you need to be careful with the logon screen. There is an APAR for
more than 1024 characters.

ITYM more than 4096 characters, as implied by the remainder of this paragraph ...

Edward Jaffe - no surprises there - has already
provided you with the details. However there's one detail I always seem to
need to supply. Why the 51 in the 51x80? Well if you multiply 51 by 80 you
get 4080. if you multiply 52 by 80 you get 4160. 4080 is less than 4096 and
4160 is more than 4096. QED

NetView Access Services is probably just inflexible and assumes the standard
24x80 when using Erase Write. (Erase Write instructs the display or emulator
logic to provide the "default" dimensions while Erase Write Alternate
instructs the display or emulator logic to provide the "alternate"
dimensions.)

Thanks for pointing out that he meant Netview Access Services (NVAS) and not Netview. Unlike Netview, which needs a special modification to work with other than 24x80 default screens, NVAS should work just fine. We used it here up until just a few months ago and never had any trouble with 3270 terminal sizes with more than 24 default rows. Perhaps it's a configuration/logmode issue.

I doubt this is a maintenance issue (except for that rather special TSO
APAR) on either z/OS or the emulator.

I'd planned to say the following:
<quote>
Be thankful that your emulator is sufficiently flexible to have anticipated
Edward Jaffe's initiative - or perhaps he has bullied them to implement this
level of flexibility. <g>
</quote>
However, you already confirmed that you are using Bluezone which means it's
one of the latter emulators.

In spite of the grin <g> you appended, I feel compelled to clarify that "bullied" is not the appropriate term to describe what actually happened here. Both of the emulator providers we approached chose to implement this functionality on its merits. They liked the promise of the additional flexibility the feature offered their customer base, it was relatively easy for them to implement, and it helps to differentiate them from their competitors.
