Alan, I know it'sm a machine dependent interface. Didn't we (the cust) pay for it :-)) Every interface is subject of change regarding OCO or not. Of course in most case downward compat is prefered.
Well the DIAG 204.6 is compatible with a z900 and higher while the DIAG 204.7 fails on z800/z890. Isn't up to the application to ensure using the correct interface regardless of the hardware?. It's public for some ISV but what is a ISV for IBM (payment)? I can handle this in my coding, but the layout is just a secret think for some unknown reason. Unsatisfying answer to "why?": Because it is a machine-defined interface that is subject to change without notice and that was never designed or evaluated (beyond the non-interference requirements) for customer use. If we answered your "What is the secret?" question, it wouldn't be much of a secret, would it? :-) But, seriously, it's not really a secret in the cloak-and-dagger sense, it's just that it isn't an defined interface and is therefore not publicly documented.
