Many times during a DR test you may need to "SCRUB" your catalogs to get
them in sync with existing DASD/datasets. There are several products on the
market that can help. T-REX is one of them and supports full multi-tasking
capabilities during the SCRUB process. As many as 32 catalogs can be
scrubbed simultaneously. I won't go into more details on all the DR support
contained within T-REX, but it is significant. Should you want more
information, contact me offline and I'd be glad to help. Also, if you just
want to run different scenarios/questions past me that are not product
related, I'd be glad to assist there too.

Subject: [SPAM] Re:DFDSS - DISASTER RECOVERY QUESTION (RESTORE) - REPOST

My concern about the catalog is that we are backing it up and restoring it.
However, the customer may be not backing up their volumes at the same time
this is why I think we could have a synchronization problem.

I forgot about the SELECTMULTI parm. I have not seen the user's backup.
However I have taken note about it and I will verify to see if it is
included in their jcl.

The backups have not been taken and are scheduled to be run on November
28th.

Thanks for picking up on the SELECTMULTI and other comments.

  John,

A couple of questions:

1. If the restores are done logically then the catalogs will be re-sync'd
during the restore. Why are you concerned?

2. Why would the catalogs be out of sync? Weren't they backed up at the same
time as the data?

3. What SELECTMULTI option was used when the logical backups were done? If
all was used you may be restoring multiple copies of multivolume datasets.
