I thought the original "official" acronym for UNIX System Services was OMVS. :-)
This thread is obviously off-course, and not to negate anything Chris said, but if you search the APAR database, you will find hundreds of hits for USS which do not mean Unformatted System Services. So, IBM may indeed be making an effort not to "officially" dub UNIX System Services as USS, but they will, as all of us will, use abbreviations when it seems to make sense. In context we all know what USS stands for, IMHO. I don't know why we have to waste time and space hashing on this every other month. Greg Shirey Ben E. By contrast the phrase "UNIX System Services" appears in the hundreds in the major manuals. Of course I have no doubt that the developers among themselves use "USS" very freely as will any, for example, redbook authors or SHARE attendees, who come into contact with them. Well, that was my two eurocents of somewhat doubtful value. I guess the "USS" pedant count has now reached three. <g> <snip> ######################################################################## As of January 1, 2007, Ben E.
