All of the discussion here has dealt with the capability to configure CHPIDs offline and online from the HMC/SE. This is NOT a new capability - it's been around for a long time.
The recommendation you cited STILL STANDS. Don't vary CHPIDs offline from the hardware if it is possible to do so from the operating system. I've checked the PR/SM Planning Guide (SB10-7041-01a, Oct 2006), the HMC Operations Guide (SC28-6857-01, Nov 2006), and the SE Operations Guide (SC28-6858-01, Nov 2006) and can find NOTHING that says it is now SAFE to configure CHPIDs out from under running operating systems. Be warned. I think it is possible that some doc made it into the z/OS 1.8 manual which is not yet actually in the hardware. Brian On Fri, 15 Dec 2006 14:11:50 -0600, Alan C.
