IIRC, a "type 5" SVC once existed as a "place holder" for an SVC number
for which an corresponding SVC did not exist. That is, the SVC table was
always 256 entries (SVC x'00' to x'FF'). In order to avoid getting a
message at IPL time, you could declare an SVC as "type 5" and the system
knew that it was unused.

This is going off of a very old memory from OS/VS1 days! I think. The
memory is encrusted with moss and other detritus.
