IIRC, a "type 5" SVC once existed as a "place holder" for an SVC number for which an corresponding SVC did not exist. That is, the SVC table was always 256 entries (SVC x'00' to x'FF'). In order to avoid getting a message at IPL time, you could declare an SVC as "type 5" and the system knew that it was unused. This is going off of a very old memory from OS/VS1 days! I think. The memory is encrusted with moss and other detritus. -- John McKown Senior Systems Programmer HealthMarkets Keeping the Promise of Affordable Coverage Administrative Services Group Information Technology The information contained in this e-mail message may be privileged and/or confidential.
