Lindy, From "A Guide to Using MVS/XA Interface Facilities" an SRA
tutorial from the Jurassic age:

"The type 5 SVC facility permits a user to indicate (at system
generation time) that one or more user-written SVC routines are going to
be added to the system after the completion of system generation.....

If a type 5 SVC is specified at system generation time, the resulting
entry in the SVC table points to the entry point address of IGCRETRN....
"

You could define the characteristics of the SVC etc. without having the
code availble during SYSGEN. This was an ancient way to save space in
the SVC table.

Jon

Subject: What is a Type-5 SVC?

I'm just curious because the numbers for SVC types go from 1 to 6 with 5
left out. Is there such a thing, or was there such a thing as a type-5
SVC?

Thanks,
Lindy
