Folks, I get a ton of email bounces for IBM-MAIN each day. Most of them I have to live with because there's not much that can be done about it. For example, someone uses a certain phrase in an email and 15 mailers complain about rejected for content. Or, my favorite, the hop count between mailers is too high, so some sites reject it because they deviated from the default of 20 hops. Those kind of rejections are transient and I leave those subscribers alone.
However, some rejections I get, appear to me as permanent errors. If I receive a permanent error from a subscriber, I will remove that email address from IBM-MAIN. Otherwise, I get 1 rejection message for each post to the list until I do something about it. Sometimes a permanent error is not true. Recently, I received "User unknown" for about 4 people at a site when I knew that was wrong because I just recently saw them post. When I emailed them a test, they received it ok. I don't always know when a mailer is lying, so I often have to remove addresses from the list. So, if you find yourself not receiving IBM-MAIN email anymore, you were probably removed due to a permanent error. Some errors I receive are temporary, such as full mailboxes or as in the case of hotmail.com, no error message at all, just undeliverable with no reason. If I believe the delivery error is temporary, I may set you to NOMAIL with notification. If you receive that notification ok, contact me and I can set you back to MAIL status. If your mailbox is full, you won't get the notification. So, let me summarize by saying: I do not arbitrarily set people to NOMAIL or remove them from the list. If you receive such a notice, it was for a reason. Do not take it personally! You did not do anything wrong. If you did, I would let you know by a personal email. Ok, got that out of my system. Comments/Question to me, not the list. Thanks.
