Obviously IBM does it, but I believe CA now also asks for monthly SCRT (Subcapacity Reporting Tool) reports from its customers who are under certain types of software contracts. Thus apparently there's ISV precedent. Why don't you do that? It's the same process your customer is (likely) already following, but they'd simply add another "bcc" to the e-mail list when they send in their monthly reports, so it's not imposing on them extra burden (as license keys would).
Your product can cut the necessary SMF type 89 records to appear in the report if you want. That's ideal, actually. Failing that, you can reference off another product that your product depends on, such as CICS, IMS, or DB2. Coupled with this, please make sure you're actually delivering additional value to your customers every year (or even perhaps every month), including PTFs (if any, as applicable) and new functions/new releases. That's usually called "software subscription." No SCRT reports, no updates -- and that's a fair bargain for both parties. - - - - - Timothy Sipples IBM Consulting Enterprise Software Architect Specializing in Software Architectures Related to System z Based in Tokyo, Serving IBM Japan and IBM Asia-Pacific E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
