Hi John,

Have you read the archives of MXG-L at Barry's site http://www.mxg.com/
? There is some good discussion and tips in the archives. A number of
folks really like processing with MXG and SAS on a PC and have been able
to do so easily enough. One search that worked pretty well. I don't
know that you would have any use for a relational database on the PC as
part of this. Just input the raw SMF data into SAS data sets and report
from those.

Thanks, Sam

Subject: SMF to SQL database?

There is a good chance that we may stop using SAS on z/OS. At present,
only one mission-critical application uses it and we are looking at
replacing that. Our other main use is MXG. I know that many have run MXG
and SAS on a PC platform for cost savings. What I am wondering, not
being an MXG person, is if anybody has tried to load SMF data into an
SQL database? In my particular case, this would likely require
reformatting the SMF data into something that could be ftp'ed to a Linux
box and then loaded into a PostgreSQL database. I'm more interested in
the table definations than anything else. And what ya'll thing of this,
given that using MXG and SAS on the z/OS system would be simplier. Am I
going totally off track even considering this?
