Sorry for my late reply (was on vacation last week).

Again, when there are multiple OAM's sharing an IBM robot they are EACH
polled individually when a new tape is inserted to find out who wants to
take ownership. Only 1 z/OS system can take ownership of any tape; and the
first OAM that says "its mine" gets it. However, the polling order is "last
system to take ownership get's polled first" (since the last system to
respond was online and active, stands to reason might as well start with
that system).

Where the REAL problem probably lies is that when the CBRUXENT/EJC exits
were first added to CA-1 (many years ago, when the IBM robots first were
introduced) we "assumed" the default for a "foreign" tape should be "take
ownership as a private volume". This was to allow foreign tapes to be
inserted and "owned" by the z/OS system as a non-scratch tape. The problem
this introduced was in this case of a shared robot; and having multiple
systems/lpar's sharing a single robot has become more and more common
(probably the norm by now). So many years ago (5+ I believe) we changed the
CBRUXENT sample source so that a foreign tape was left in the "insert
pending" category (and therefore other systems would be polled). If you have
not re-assembled your CA-1 supplied CBRUXENT exit in many years; or are very
far back in terms of CA-1 maintenance you might still have the version that
takes ownership of foreign tapes.

Please contact CA-1 level-1 support for assitance on this.

?

I'm probably going back too far (2-3 yrs) but the d/t 3494 would present
the insert to whichever system answered up first not all systems. From
what has been said, it appears that's changed?
