I would go a little further in this process. See if SYS1.VTAMLST is allocated
to anything else other than VTAM. We have VTAMLST in TCPIP proc as well.

Any task that has your VTAMLST allocated will need to come down.

Easiest way is the GRS command: D GRS,RES=(*,SYS1.VTAMLST)

Whatever is in the list, would need to come down inorder to compress or rename
the files.

here is an example from my shop:

ISG343I 12.46.27 GRS STATUS 903
S=SYSTEMS SYSDSN   SYS1.VTAMLST
SYSNAME JOBNAME ASID TCBADDR EXC/SHR STATUS
DDB2      VTAMZOS            003D       009FD0C8   SHARE      OWN
DPA1      VTAMZOS            003E       009FD0C8   SHARE      OWN
SPG7      VTAMZOS            003A       009FD0C8   SHARE      OWN
SDH8      VTAMZOS            003A       009FD0C8   SHARE      OWN
DPA1      TPX                00A2       009FD0C8   SHARE      OWN

I would need to take down VTAM and TPX in all LPARs sharing this dataest. If
your test system is a standalone, then you should need see any additional LPARs.

Remember GRS manages at the DSN level.
