As a long-time VMer, I have tested almost everything is another virtual machine, from MVT through MVS to z/OS, and VM, VSE and now Linux. I do not need another LPAR as long as I have the real resources, memory, DASD, CPU to handle the test workload plus some overhead. If you need to test a new level of Websphere under linux, you do not require a test z/VM with the test linux under that, too many levels of virtualization, just use a separate linux virtual machine.
