I have a possibility of a long 3 year contract as a sysprog in another state.
I was wondering how other people set a rate, and what they do about the house
they own.

As long as I am a contractor, I don't want to sell my house in the Milwaukee
area. Since the last contract job I was on (my only contracting job) was
supposed to last for a year, and possibly lead to a permanent job, I was kind
of disappointed when it ended after almost 4 months. It taught me a lesson
that unless I'm pretty sure that the job is going to last a long time, don't
sign a lease. I had a 6 month lease, so now I have to pay for 2 months I don't
need. Actually, that is working out ok, as I am now in the middle of painting
a couple of rooms in my old house, and its a lot easier to do before moving the
rest of my furniture. How do people handle long term contracts, with their
house? I may rent it out, but then I'd have to figure out what to do with all
my stuff.

How do you set a rate? I know what I got at my last job, and it was ok, but I
could drive back to Milwaukee in 2 hours. If I'm a thousand miles away, I'll
have to do a lot of flying back and forth. Also, I assume I'll need another
car, as it would be cheaper to own one than to rent one when I go back to
Milwaukee.

You can reply on list or off list to me.
