Our problem is, the FLEX-ES system was the only IBM sanction platform
that many of the small developers could afford, and now the
availability of that platform is in its death throws, and IBM does
not seem to be doing anything at all to provide a realistic successor
solution.

<SNIP>

It occurs to me that if IBM were to resurrect the P/390 (z/PC?), that
today it could be done with at least 2 CPUs (minimum for RACE condition
testing), 2GB of C-Store (directly available for the MF SCP), and RAID
based DASD where there would be enough disk space to define 16 3390-3
volumes and at least 1 3390-27 (before going external with SCSI for more
storage). And it should include a 3490 cart unit.

Given today's prices against 1995 prices, an IBM built PWD machine like
this should be an attractive offering, particularly on a 3 year lease.
And that would include the CD/DVD system(s) being free to Developers as
was with the original P/390 systems.

Just a thought.

Steve Thompson
