We have two SAN's an OLD HDS 9960 (now out of service) and a IBM DS6800. The HDS SAN had a recommend having CACHEFASTWRITE turned on. The IBM DS6800, we removed SETCACHE as the manual said something like setting device caching ON is accepted, but has no affect on the subsystem and it can't be turned off. From memory you get a console full of messages it you attempt to SETCACHE off on the DS6800
My recommendation like others is to refer to your SAN user guide, as the correct options can make a world of difference.
