Ron, Thanks for the list - and it's more than a dozen! I'm happy to see we're doing a lot of this already but since we have no product like ACC/SRS (or even HSM) to help, you've mentioned several things we can't do. Also, we have no production control staff, so JCL is all in the hands of the programmers, and they "have no time" to go through and modify it to do better data set allocations. sigh..
I did wonder about your number 8 suggestion - this is for extended format VSAM only, isn't it? I thought that for all other data sets, you get the primary when you extend to a new volume.
